What's so good about it? How can something like crucifixion be a good thing?
Its true crucifixion was not a good thing, but what makes it "good" is that our Father in Heaven loves us so much that rather than have us tried and found guilty for our sins, Jesus took our place instead.
Through Christ, we are set free!
This day had to happen for us to receive the joy of Resurrection Sunday & to share the Good News of Jesus. Sometimes sin can be done so effortlessly within a daily routine or out of habit that people become lost thinking "it's not so bad, the stuff other people do is bad." Remember, "not so bad" is still not good.
The consequences of sin had to be poured out on Jesus, the only perfect sacrificial substitute, for forgiveness and salvation to pour out to the nations.
Romans 5:6-10
6. At just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly. 7. Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous person, though for a good person someone might possibly dare to die. 8. But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
9. Since we have now been justified by his blood, how much more shall we be saved from God’s wrath through him! 10. For if, while we were God’s enemies, we were reconciled to him through the death of his Son, how much more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved through his life!
Isaiah 53:3-5
3. He was despised and rejected by mankind,
a man of suffering, and familiar with pain.
Like one from whom people hide their faces he was despised, and we held him in low esteem. 4. Surely he took up our pain and bore our suffering, yet we considered him punished by God, stricken by him, and afflicted. 5. But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds, we are healed.
